Drought and inflated food trade in March , says IBGEBy Diogo Martins | Value
RIO - The prices of food and beverages rose pulled by weather problems , increased exports of meat and difficulties in importing items like wheat . That's the assessment of Eulina dos Santos , coordinator of indices of Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics ( IBGE ) .

According to the IBGE , the Food and beverages group increased 1.92 % in the third month of 2014 , after rising by 0.56 % in February . With this, the group contributed 0.47 percentage points to 0.92 % IPCA one point .
" The drought was the main impact on food prices ," said the specialist IBGE .
 
Between February and March , the foods were more expensive were potatoes ( 35.05% ) , tomato ( 32.85% ) , carioca beans ( 11.81% ) and vegetables and vegetables ( 9.36 % ) . This period , the meat rose 2.25% .
" There was an increase in meat exports , decreasing the supply in the domestic market," Eulina said , adding that the item had also influence the increased costs of animal feed , due to the drought.
