Fundações reforçam ações do cooperativismo

 

Para Marcos Schwingel, gerente de Educação da Fundação Sicredi, constituir uma fundação é fácil: basta elaborar o estatuto e submetê-lo ao Ministério Público. Difícil, porém, é definir o seu propósito. “Isso precisa ser bem pensado, bem planejado. O nosso, por exemplo, é estar presentes com educação e cultura em cada lugar onde houver uma cooperativa”, explica.

Ele lembra que, na filosofia do cooperativismo, a intenção é “fazer com” e não “fazer para”. E que deve haver muito diálogo quanto às propostas da entidade. “Uma fundação não pode nascer com o objetivo de buscar recursos de incentivo fiscal. Isso é um meio, não um fim. O projeto nasce de uma demanda. Depois vamos pensar onde buscar recursos para bancá-lo.”

Para a Cooperativa Central Aurora Alimentos, a principal vantagem obtida com a manutenção da Fundação Aury Luiz Bodanese é desenvolver o sétimo princípio do cooperativismo, ou seja, o interesse pela comunidade. Mas sua existência é relevante também por trabalhar as metas do milênio, que são importantes para a sociedade e para o sistema cooperativista.

Um dos grandes desafios para a criação de uma fundação, na avaliação da Aurora, é a mudança de atitudes, exigindo o exercício permanente da cidadania.  Outro motivo de preocupação é a prestação de contas, que as fundações devem submeter ao Ministério Público. É preciso estar sempre em conformidade com as diretrizes do órgão, o que envolve uma quantidade considerável de procedimentos burocráticos.

Schwingel, da Fundação Sicredi, acrescenta que é preciso muito estudo no começo – um ano ou mais, até. É necessário embasamento teórico muito forte e mobilização social. “Há cinco anos, desenvolvemos um trabalho estratégico, para facilitar que a cooperativa seja perene. Em nossa fundação, é muito forte a responsabilidade dos presidentes de cada cooperativa na execução dos projetos. A fundação tem um presidente, mas isso não diminui a responsabilidade de cada cooperativa, de cada um dos seus funcionários”.

Para dar conta de todo esse planejamento, a fundação não precisa ter uma grande estrutura. Com 113 cooperativas, presença em dez Estados e 2,4 milhões de associados, o Sicredi toca sua fundação com apenas oito colaboradores. Nos três primeiros anos de existência, eram apenas três. O motivo? É que cada cooperativa é, efetivamente, a responsável pela sensibilização, pela mobilização da comunidade.

Administradores da Aurora lembram, entretanto, que as cooperativas não precisam necessariamente criar uma fundação para desenvolver projetos e programas. Um departamento bem estruturado, com orçamento e planejamento, é suficiente para desenvolver várias atividades nas áreas sociais, culturais e ambientais.

FUNDAÇÃO SICRED

A Fundação de Desenvolvimento Educacional e Cultural do Sistema de Crédito Cooperativo – Fundação Sicredi tem como objetivo estruturar, desenvolver e coordenar programas de educação que promovam o cooperativismo de crédito e a formação de associados. Para tanto, desenvolve uma série de ações voltadas paras as comunidades onde as cooperativas se encontram. Portanto, não atende só aos associados e suas famílias, mas a todas as pessoas do local onde o Sicredi está presente.

Ela foi fundada em 2005, mas iniciou efetivamente suas atividades do fim de 2006. Hoje, há dez projetos em curso, que foram submetidos ao Ministério da Cultura para obtenção de benefícios fiscais. Os projetos são desenvolvidos num sistema de colaboradores. Pode ser uma peça de teatro, uma campanha de consumo consciente, participação numa feira. Tudo isso no âmbito da educação cooperativa, com metodologia própria, mantendo os mesmos valores que incentiva, conta Schwingel. E a fundação também avalia como esses valores são absorvidos.

A Fundação Sicredi foi qualificada como Organizações da Sociedade Civil de Interesse Público (OSCIPs) em 2010. Este reconhecimento facilita parcerias e convênios com os níveis de governo e órgãos públicos (federal, estadual e municipal), além de permitir a obtenção de doações realizadas por empresas, que poderão ser descontadas no Imposto de Renda.

Para atingir seus objetivos, a fundação capta recursos sob forma de doações, renúncias e/ou incentivos fiscais, programas oficiais subvencionados, patrocínios de entidades governamentais e não governamentais nacionais e/ou estrangeiras. Esses recursos destinam-se a investimentos fixos ou manutenção dos projetos, programas e demais atividades da Fundação Sicredi.

FUNDAÇÃO AURY LUIZ BODANESE

As atividades da Fundação Aury Luiz Bodanese, da Cooperativa Aurora, começaram em 1996, inicialmente com o objetivo de realizar convênios com empresas especializadas e serviços de assistência médica, hospitalar, odontológica e de drogaria em benefício de seus integrantes, bem como promover atividades culturais, recreativas e de lazer, além de suplementar os benefícios do regime oficial de previdência social.

Em 2007, seus estatutos foram alterados para atender a mudanças na legislação. Hoje, define sua função como incentivar, promover, coordenar, articular e executar programas, projetos e ações relacionados ao desenvolvimento ambiental, cultural e social. Tudo isso para valorizar o ser humano e contribuir para o exercício da cidadania.

Os programas da Fundação Aury Luiz Bodanesi desenvolvem-se em torno de três núcleos: ambiental (ações relativas a preservação e educação ambiental); cultural (acesso a manifestações culturais por meio de atividades que promovam a interação das pessoas) e social (ações voltadas para o bem-estar social e pessoal, para a autonomia, a saúde, a democracia e ao exercício da cidadania).

A Fundação Aury Luiz Bodanese mantém uma equipe interdisciplinar para realização de seus programas, desenvolvidos por meio de parcerias com entidades privadas educacionais e sociais e órgãos públicos, mas não dispensa o trabalho voluntário, permitindo a participação de membros da comunidade na organização de palestras, encontros, oficinas, seminários, exposições, cursos e concursos e na produção de materiais educativos. Nos últimos seis anos, a Fundação Aury Luiz Bodanese realizou 4.415 ações, as quais envolveram 599.796 pessoas.

Cooperativa 'Antônio da Costa Santos' tem parceria inédita com a Prefeitura de Campinas-SP

A Cooperativa de Recicláveis “Antônio da Costa Santos”, do Jardim Satélite Íris, é a primeira organização com seu perfil a ser contratada diretamente pela Prefeitura Municipal de Campinas, para fazer a coleta seletiva e triagem de resíduos recicláveis. A coleta passou a ser feita no Condomínio San Conrado, no distrito de Sousas, situado na Área de Proteção Ambiental (APA) de Campinas. 

A Cooperativa de Produção dos Profissionais em Coleta, Manuseio e Comercialização de Materiais Recicláveis e Reutilizáveis "Antonio da Costa Santos” passa desde 2013 por uma completa reformulação do espaço físico e de seu processo de gestão, em função de sua participação no Programa PorAmérica, iniciativa da RedEAmérica. No caso da Cooperativa, o Projeto “Construindo Sonhos Através dos Recicláveis” recebe o apoio direto, financeiro e técnico, do Instituto Arcor Brasil. 

Em função deste apoio, a Cooperativa vivenciou a implantação de uma política de qualidade, a montagem de um novo layout e a capacitação de triadoras para atuar de forma apropriada diante do Sistema de Gestão de Resíduos Sólidos de Campinas, no âmbito das possibilidades abertas pela Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos. Desta forma ela se credenciou a se tornar a primeira cooperativa de recicláveis de Campinas a firmar contrato direto com a Prefeitura Municipal, para receber pelos seus serviços. 

O contrato firmado com a Secretaria Municipal de Serviços Públicos vigora desde janeiro e tem o prazo de 12 meses. A Cooperativa “Antônio da Costa Santos” é uma das 15 cooperativas de resíduos sólidos vinculadas ao Programa Municipal de Economia Solidária, da Secretaria Municipal de Trabalho e Renda. A intenção, segundo a Prefeitura, é que, dependendo dos resultados, o projeto-piloto representado pela parceria entre a “Antônio da Costa Santos” e a Prefeitura seja estendido a outras organizações ligadas ao Programa Municipal de Economia Solidária. 

A implantação de uma política de qualidade na Cooperativa “Antônio da Costa Santos” resultou das oficinas    ministradas pelo Prof Dr. Robisom Calado, da PUC-Campinas, parceira do Centro de Referência em Cooperativismo e Associativismo (CRCA) e do Instituto Arcor Brasil. Com a participação no PorAmérica, a cooperativa  modificou seu processo de separação dos resíduos, garantindo maior organização e aumento da produtividade e renda dos cooperados.  

O apoio do Instituto Arcor também possibilitou que as formações fossem estendidas aos cooperados de mais seis cooperativas de recicláveis de Campinas. Houve ainda o apoio à Reciclamp (união de cooperativas de recicláveis de Campinas e Valinhos), em termos de construção do portfólio e de seu plano de comercialização. 

O Programa PorAmérica - Programa Fortalecimento de Organizações de Base – ODB para Combater a Pobreza foi uma iniciativa promovida e cofinanciada pela RedEAmérica, em aliança com o Banco Interamericano de Desenvolvimento - BID e a Corporação Consórcio para o Desenvolvimento Comunitário.

Brasil recicla apenas 3% do lixo urbano

Apenas 3% dos resíduos sólidos produzidos nas cidades brasileiras são reciclados, apesar de 1/3 de todo o lixo urbano ser potencialmente reciclável. A situação foi apresentada em debate dia 23, em Brasília, na Subcomissão Temporária de Resíduos Sólidos, ligada à Comissão de Meio Ambiente, Defesa do Consumidor e Fiscalização e Controle (CMA), do Senado. 

Conforme Carlos Roberto Vieira Filho, diretor da Associação Brasileira de Empresas de Limpeza Pública e Resíduos Especiais, o país produz 63 milhões de toneladas de resíduos sólidos por ano, sendo o quinto maior gerador de lixo urbano. 

O diretor conta que o brasileiro produz 383 quilos de lixo per capta por ano, volume que cresceu 21% nos últimos dez anos, enquanto a população brasileira aumentou 9,6% no mesmo período. Carlos Roberto informou que 60% dos municípios brasileiros têm “alguma iniciativa” de coleta seletiva. 

– No entanto, isso não significa que tenham coleta seletiva em todo o território ou que tenham programa formalizado porta a porta, mas apenas que o município está aberto ao tema – observou. 

A distância entre a teoria e a prática foi exemplificada por Roney Alves da Silva, representante do Movimento Nacional dos Catadores de Materiais Recicláveis. Conforme afirmou, o material proveniente da coleta seletiva em Brasília é despejado em lixões e lá os catadores fazem a coleta do material a céu aberto e sem estrutura adequada. 

“Coleta seletiva não é só pintar o caminhão de verde. É a população separar seus resíduos em casa e, em dias alternados, recolher os secos e os orgânicos, destinar os perigosos para pontos de coleta específicos e assim por diante. Infelizmente isso não aconteceu. Hoje a coleta seletiva vai para o Lixão da Estrutural, onde o material é separado pelos catadores, se houver chuva, na chuva, e se houver sol, é no sol”, disse Roney.

Cooperativa de agricultura familiar aumenta a produção de iogurte inspecionado

O crescimento em 80% na produção mensal de iogurte indústria láctea nos últimos três anos foi o resultado da orientação técnica fornecida pela Agência de Defesa Agropecuária da Bahia (Adab), vinculada à Secretaria Estadual de Agricultura, para a Cooperativa de Produção Agropecuária de Jiló (Coopag), zona rural de Várzea Nova, Bahia. O aumento de 20 para 100 mil litros de iogurte fabricados por mês proporcionou a oferta de produtos lácteos inspecionados e de boa qualidade que chegam à mesa da população, gerando emprego, renda e desenvolvimento para a região.

O presidente da Coopag, Ronaldo Carneiro, e o gerente comercial, Fred Jordão, procuraram recentemente a Adab para agradecer as orientações que foram fornecidas em 27 de julho de 2011. “Após 10 anos com as portas fechadas por irregularidades, a Agência iniciou trabalho diferenciado para retirar produtores da clandestinidade e de adequação do laticínio com instruções que envolvem toda a cadeia produtiva, desde a produção, transporte, industrialização, até o armazenamento e distribuição. Desde então a região carente comemora o constante crescimento”, contou o coordenador de Operações Especiais da Adab, Adilson Pinheiro, sem deixar de citar a importância da atividade de inspeção no processo de produção das indústrias de leite e derivados.

O gerente comercial, Fred Jordão, explicou que para tal crescimento também foi necessário fortalecer o diálogo com os cooperados para qualificar a produção de leite, oriundo das pequenas propriedades da agricultura familiar. “A Coopag contou com o apoio da Adab no trabalho de conscientização dos trabalhadores em relação às exigências higiênico-sanitárias e dos pequenos produtores rurais para melhorar a qualidade da matéria-prima. A equipe da Adab é co-responsável pelo sucesso da cooperativa”, ressaltou Jordão. O gerente continuou informando que hoje todo o leite processado vem da agricultura familiar e foi o caminho escolhido para chegar a produzir iogurte inspecionado e de qualidade, além de retirar os produtores da clandestinidade.

Para o diretor de Inspeção de Produtos Agropecuários da Adab, Adriano Bouzas, o funcionamento deste laticínio constitui uma forte ferramenta para a inclusão social, geração de emprego e renda, bem como de impulsionar o mercado regional, contribuindo para o crescimento do setor agropecuário naquela região que é muito carente. “A expectativa é que, ainda este ano, o laticínio passe a diversificar a produção, passando a fabricar também queijo e manteiga, e forneça os alimentos inspecionados para a merenda escolar de mais de 35 mil alunos da rede municipal de ensino.”, acrescentou Bouzas.

O diretor geral da Adab, Paulo Emílio Torres, finalizou dizendo que o compromisso atual da Agência é de esclarecer, orientar e fazer com que os laticínios tenham condições de funcionar, respeitando aspectos econômicos, técnicos, higiênicos e ambientais.

Cooperativa apresenta cachaça elaborada a partir do bagaço da laranja

A produção de laranja lima, no Vale do Mundaú, que já recebeu um investimento de aproximadamente R$ 600 mil, através da Desenvolve – Agência de Fomento de Alagoas, ganha mais força com a fabricação de cachaça do bagaço da fruta.

 

A inovação idealizada pelo professor Cícero Calazans, do curso de agronomia da Universidade Federal de Alagoas (Ufal), e realizada pela Cooperativa dos Produtores de Laranja Lima de Alagoas (Cooplal), pode gerar mais emprego e renda para a comunidade de Santana do Mundaú, com a sua fabricação e distribuição.

 

Para isto a Cooplal informa que a importância de se adquirir subsídios do governo, para que a fabricação de cachaça ocorra, será de extrema importância no escoamento da produção, que vai solucionar 20% dos problemas com a perda de laranja. “Já temos o local onde será a indústria da cachaça, precisamos agora dos equipamentos para comercializá-la para o mundo inteiro”, afimou o presidente da Cooplal, Antonio Carlos Souza.

 

O gerente de crédito da Desenvolve, Jamerson Silva, indicou que a Agência de Fomento tem todo o interesse em financiar as cadeias estratégicas sob o ponto de vista de geração do desenvolvimento da comunidade local. “A Desenvolve visa apoiar ações que vão facilitar o fortalecimento da produção e aumentar a possibilidade de desenvolvimento sustentável dos municípios alagoanos”, explicou.

 

Fabricação

 

Com uma colheita de mais de 50 toneladas de laranja lima ao ano, a Cooplal vem tentando reduzir ao máximo as perdas que ocorrem com o descarte de alguns produtos e suas derivações. O presidente da cooperativa aponta que já existem 49 cooperados representando 26 associações, com uma média de 900 produtores. 

 

A cooperativa colhe as frutas de seus cooperados em Santana de Mundaú, em seguida é encaminhado para a indústria do suco, onde é vendida para o Governo e microindústrias do Estado.

 

Na sequência do processo, parte do suco é transformada em cachaça de primeira geração e em álcool hidratado. Do bagaço é produzido álcool de segunda geração, que posteriormente será comercializado.

 

“Já que se gasta muita laranja para se fazer um litro de cachaça, acreditamos que este processo gerará muito mais emprego e renda, além de este, ser um produto diferenciado. A previsão é que no segundo semestre deste ano já estejamos fabricando esta cachaça em larga escala”, indicou o presidente da Cooplal, Antonio Carlos Souza.

 

Degustação

 

Dando continuidade ao cronograma do projeto de elaboração da cachaça, foi apresentado, nesta quinta-feira (10), no Laboratório de Pesquisa de Tecnologia de Alimentos da Ufal, a primeira cachaça de suco de laranja lima, em parceria. Durante a apresentação, os presentes tiveram o direito de degustar e conhecer um pouco o processo.

 

Para o gerente de crédito da Desenvolve, este momento é importante para consolidação das parcerias e conhecimento da inovação do produto. “A cooperativa pode acessar linhas de crédito com taxas atrativas, por este motivo, viemos convidar a Cooplal para reforçar a parceria com a Agência de Fomento de Alagoas em buscar de projetos como este, que vão gerar emprego e renda”, enfatizou.

 

Apoio à cooperativa

 

Já em 2010, a cooperativa de Santana do Mundaú consolidou parceria com a Desenvolve. A primeira aquisição aconteceu após a concessão de crédito no valor de 31 mil reais, para a compra de uma máquina de beneficiamento de laranjas. Em 2011, a instituição retirou um empréstimo no valor de R$ 100 mil para suprir as necessidades ocasionadas pelas enchentes do mesmo ano.

 

Desde então, a Cooplal vem sendo beneficiada com o apoio da Desenvolve nas áreas de liberação de crédito e recursos não reembolsáveis por meio de editais, como o de Apoio aos APLs de Baixa Renda.

 

Com o resultado do edital, a Cooplal foi beneficiada com um valor de R$ 230 mil para aquisição de motocicletas, caminhão baú, equipamentos de proteção individual (EPI) e roçadeira.

O objetivo do evento foi alertar aos produtores sobre a importância do controle de doenças bovinas como a brucelose e a tuberculose.

Na oportunidade, os participantes assistiram à palestra do consultor pecuário Otto Portela, sobre prática de vacinação, importância do controle da brucelose e tuberculose bovina. Os criadores puderam também tirar dúvidas sobre a atividade pecuária. Além disso, acompanharam a vacinação de bezerras contra a brucelose, e o lançamento da primeira Associação Rural do município, a Campo Rural.

Para o engenheiro agrônomo da CPLA, Glauco Yves, a atividade representa um importante incentivo para a diversificação da atividade no município. “Campo Alegre é uma região de cana-de-açúcar. Hoje conseguimos instalar o Programa do Leite, o que vai diversificar a atividade na região, consequentemente gerar mais renda, e fortificar a ação da CPLA junto ao agricultor familiar”, enfatizou.

Seca e comércio exterior inflacionaram alimentos em março, diz IBGE

RIO  -  Os preços do grupo alimentação e bebidas subiram puxados por problemas climáticos, aumento de exportações de carne e dificuldades de importação de itens como o trigo. Por isso, o grupo respondeu por 51% do Índice Nacional de Preços ao Consumidor Amplo (IPCA) em março. Essa é a avaliação de Eulina dos Santos, coordenadora de índices de preços do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatísticas (IBGE).

De acordo com o IBGE, o grupo Alimentação e bebidas subiu 1,92% no terceiro mês de 2014, após alta de 0,56% em fevereiro. Com isso, o grupo contribuiu com 0,47 ponto percentual para um IPCA de 0,92%.

“A estiagem foi o principal impacto nos preços dos alimentos”, afirmou a especialista do IBGE.

Entre fevereiro e março, os alimentos que ficaram mais caros foram batata inglesa (35,05%), tomate (32,85%), feijão-carioca (11,81%) e hortaliças e verduras (9,36%). Nesse período, as carnes subiram 2,25%.

“Houve aumento na exportação de carnes, diminuindo a oferta no mercado doméstico”, disse Eulina, acrescentando que o item também teve influência do encarecimento das rações animais, por conta da seca.
Alguns derivados do trigo ficaram mais caros em março na comparação com fevereiro. Isso ocorreu com farinha de trigo (1,07%) e pão de forma (1,09%).

“Existem algumas dificuldades na importação de trigo e sabemos que nossa produção desse grão, neste ano, será menor”, afirmou a especialista do IBGE.

Eulina notou ainda que o encarecimento das passagens aéreas em março influenciou o resultado do grupo Transportes, cuja demanda foi impulsionada pelo Carnaval.

Entre fevereiro e março, o grupo transportes passou de queda de 0,05% para elevação de 1,38%. As passagens aéreas, cujos preços recuaram 20,55% em fevereiro, subiram 26,49% no mês seguinte, o maior impacto entre os itens que compõem o IPCA, respondendo por 0,12 ponto percentual, que avançou 0,92%.

“Observamos que, em março, as companhias aéreas deixaram de ofertar passagens aéreas promocionais. Efeito do carnaval. Em fevereiro, quando a demanda era menor, o setor ofereceu muitas tarifas promocionais”, disse a especialista do IBGE.

Outro item que pressionou Transportes foi o etanol, com alta de 4,07% em março frente a fevereiro. Como o combustível também compõe a gasolina, esta subiu 0,67% no período.

Brasília (8/04) – A missão brasileira formada por 27 líderes cooperativistas visitou hoje a cooperativa de crédito Fidelidade, localizada na cidade de Hamm, na Alemanha. O grupo teve a oportunidade de conhecer mais a fundo a estrutura de uma das cooperativas de crédito alemão mais tradicionais. A visita ocorre como parte da programação da quinta turma do Programa de Formação de Executivos e Líderes Cooperativistas, desenvolvido pela Ocepar, em parceria com o Sebrae/PR e, com apoio do Sistema OCB, cuja gerente geral, Tânia Zanella, é integrante.

Ontem, o grupo participou de uma palestra sobre agronegócio e política europeia, focando cooperativas agropecuárias que trabalham com o processamento de carnes. A atividade ocorreu na cidade alemã de Hohenhein.

Dow AgroSciences começa a produzir sementes de milho selecionadas no oeste

 

Uma cerimônia no Salão de Atos da Governadoria, em Salvador, nesta terça-feira (25), marcou o início das atividades da unidade de beneficiamento de milho multinacional Dow AgroSciences no município de Luis Eduardo Magalhães, na região oeste do estado. No evento também foi assinada a escritura definitiva do terreno, onde a empresa está instalada. 

 

Até o final deste ano, a empresa deve produzir 700 mil sacas de semente híbrida para abastecer os mercados baiano e brasileiro, como explicou o diretor de manufatura, Marcelo Bueno, enfatizando que a região foi escolhida “pelos aspectos climáticos, associado ao emprego de tecnologia pelos produtores da região e as condições de irrigação. Todos estes fatores são muito atrativos”. 

 

O secretário da Agricultura, Jairo Carneiro, afirmou que, para a produção de sementes beneficiadas, selecionadas, o “empreendimento supre uma necessidade não apenas da Bahia, mas do Brasil, dando uma maior rentabilidade. É fundamental ainda para o desempenho da nossa economia como um todo, além de reduzir uma necessidade de importação de produtos”.

 

Com clima e solo favoráveis à produção de grãos, a região oeste é um dos maiores produtores de soja e milho do país e contribui para o crescimento econômico do estado. A instalação de empresas de beneficiamento, que separam as sementes danificadas das demais, agrega valor ao produto final, como ressaltou o governador Jaques Wagner. 

 

Ele disse que as empresas “contribuem para o estado porque aportam tecnologia. A Dow, por exemplo, é uma empresa de ponta. China confirms opening of the Brazilian corn market
China confirmed yesterday that will allow the importation of large quantities of Brazilian corn , another step in the Asian country to reduce its dependence on the product from the United States .
The U.S. provides more than 90 % of cereal imports into China , but their participation in the corn -growing market in the world has fallen in the past two years on initiatives that country to diversify its sources of supply .
Increasing industrialization and the transition of China to a diet rich in proteins are altering the world trade flows . The volume of Chinese demand last year was 39 times greater than in 2009 , while imports represent , so far, only 2 % of total household consumption.
Beijing officials have warned that China could face a shortfall in supply of corn in the coming years due to increasing demand of animal feed and food processing , which turn the grain into profitable byproducts such as sweeteners , starches and glues , among other industries .
This demand is expected to remain high . In January , authorities said that the agricultural sector is likely that China has to import more corn in the coming years , in what was billed as " an inevitable choice ."
The agreement with Brazil , signed on March 31 by the General Administration of Quality Supervision , Inspection and Quarantine of China , is similar to those signed with Argentina , in February 2012 , and Ukraine in November of the same year . Analysts note that the formal announcement yesterday was the result of months of work to determine what types of Brazilian corn China considers acceptable for import.
In November , when he was in China , the then Minister of Agriculture of Brazil , Antonio Andrade , said the two countries had closed a plant according to the Brazilian corn were exported to the Chinese market , but did not say when he would be formally approved .
Brazil has recently become the second largest corn exporter in the world after the U.S. , but it was not the first Latin American country to negotiate with China on that front . Argentina , third largest exporter , sent in July its first large shipment to the Asian country (66 tons ) .
Brazil and Argentina came to sell a few hundred tons of corn to China in the past , but agreements to ensure product integrity , as the plant pact between Brazil and China, may pave the way for consignments that can reach thousands of tons in a single month .
Analysts say China's delay in addressing Brazil and maize may have been caused by logistical factors . " The supply of maize in Brazil can be very volatile and unstable ," says Pan Chenjun , analyst at Rabobank . Brazil is just one of at least seven countries with which China has been negotiating to secure its supply of cereal.
In 2011 , U.S. only , Laos and Myanmar sent shipments of higher corn and 10 tons to China . But last year , the country added Argentina and Ukraine to the group of large suppliers . China also increased the share of supply of other countries , including Russia and India .
In 2012 , the U.S. accounted for 98 % of maize imports from China . Last year , the U.S. share fell to 91 % . Meanwhile , Chinese quality inspectors rejected a record 545,000 tonnes of U.S. corn last year , claiming that the charges were contaminated with a genetically modified variety not approved by the Chinese government to import .
Even so , the high levels of imports in recent months - including the U.S. corn - indicate that China continues to be an opportunistic buyer on world markets . Corn prices began rising in recent weeks , but thanks to a massive global crop still 34 % below the historical peak of U.S. $ 333 per tonne recorded in July 2012.
China continues to take initiatives to ensure his share of grains and other foods in the world . Giant COFCO paid about $ 1.2 billion for a majority stake in the Dutch trading Nidera . The State also filed a $ 1.5 billion consortium to acquire a majority stake in agribusiness division of Noble Group .
